Sources and credits

Where every word and picture came from, what was recovered, and what is lost for good.

This is an independent rebuild of faxxapp.com, the site for the Faxx iOS app. The live domain now serves a Hostinger parking page, and the App Store listing the site linked to no longer resolves.

Nothing here was invented as a company fact. The pages follow the three the Internet Archive captured, and every image is the company’s own file from those captures.

Where it came from

SourceWhat it supplied
LinkedIn company pageThe description, the Berkeley address, the employee count (4), the follower count (139), the slogan — “cloud-based anonymous messaging social media platform seamlessly integrated with Snapchat” — and the website field that confirmed the domain.
Internet Archive — 25 Jun 2022The home page, the support page and the privacy policy; four stylesheets, three scripts, a sitemap and 12 images.
The site’s own CSSThe palette — peach #FEAFA3, cream #FFF7F6, blush #FEDEDB, sky #AEDEE9 — and the typefaces, Montserrat and Varela Round. Neither is a guess.
The company’s contact linksThe support address, which was obfuscated in the page source and has been decoded from it.

The capture list is in _tools/archive/SOURCES.txt; per-file provenance is in _tools/archive/images.json.

What was recovered

  • All four product screens — the Snap story sticker, the chat list, the chat thread and the profile page, at their published resolution with their transparent corners intact.
  • Four Bitmoji avatars for the four people, plus the logo, the pink wordmark, the App Store badge and the favicon.
  • The stylesheet, which is where the peach palette and the rounded type come from, and the sitemap, which lists every page that ever existed.
  • The privacy policy, effective 21 May 2021, reproduced in full.

What is lost

  • Four pages that the sitemap lists and the archive never captured: terms.html, jobs, suggestFeature.html and download (plus landing.html, an alternate landing page). They are not reproduced and not linked.
  • The App Store listing, id 1541029378. It no longer resolves in any storefront, so the screenshots and the app preview it carried are gone with it. The badge on the home page is shown as an artefact, not as a working link.
  • The app itself and its backend — the Faxx service, the accounts and anything inside them.
  • Video. The original site carried none: no film, no preview, no animation beyond scroll fades. Nothing here pretends otherwise.

Deviations, stated plainly

  • The four feature sections became one interactive panel. The original stacked four full-width rows; here they are four selectable tabs with the same copy, the same screens, a thumbnail strip and an auto-advancing cycle. Wording was not changed, only re-arranged.
  • The markup is new. The original was built with a scroll-animation library loaded from a CDN; this is hand-written HTML, one stylesheet and one small script, so it works offline and from a file.
  • Nothing is requested from another server on load — no fonts, no analytics, no CDN.
  • The navigation is wider. The original had two links; this adds Team, Support and Sources so that no link is a dead end and every page is reachable.
  • The forms do not post. The support form validates in the browser and then hands the message to your email app, addressed to the published address.
  • Terms and Jobs are absent rather than faked: their pages were never archived, and inventing legal terms would be worse than leaving them out.
  • Copy is trimmed and the long paragraphs are broken up, but no sentence about the product was invented.

Licences

  • Images — the company’s own files, recovered from its site. No stock photography was used anywhere, so there is nothing to credit beyond the company itself.
  • Montserrat — SIL Open Font License 1.1, self-hosted as a variable woff2.
  • Varela Round — SIL Open Font License 1.1, self-hosted as a woff2.
  • Snapchat and App Store marks belong to Snap Inc. and Apple. They appear only where the original site used them, to describe the integration.
